At Nival, it all really started with the Nival Explorer , our very first climbing pants . More than just a technical garment, this model laid the foundations of our brand identity: committed, innovative, and focused on outdoor sports. Where did the project come from?

The idea for the Nival Explorer climbing pants emerged when we began to think of Nival as a technical clothing brand. After climbing in traditional cotton pants, we realized a frustrating reality: after a few months, the fabrics would break, the seams would weaken, and the garments would become unusable.

This observation laid the foundation for the project: to create truly durable climbing pants , capable of withstanding the wear and tear of rock or resin and repeated movements, without compromising on comfort. These climbing pants are designed to last, even in the most demanding conditions.

From the idea to the first model

The development of the Nival Explorer required more than 13 prototypes to arrive at a final version that met climbers' expectations. The fitted cut was designed to support movement on the cliff or boulder, while maintaining a simple, unisex style.

A strong innovation marked the design: a tightening buckle integrated into the belt , allowing a precise adjustment without adding a classic belt.

While the design remains faithful to the original version, each iteration has allowed for the technical details to be refined: breathable pocket, reinforced finishes, discreet branding with the Nival logo on buttons and zippers. Climbing pants that are practical, technical, and identifiable.

Tests and field

The Nival Explorer was first tested in extreme conditions, during climbing sessions on the humid cliffs of Vietnam, at 32°C and over 80% humidity. This extreme context allowed us to test the material, breathability, and fit of the pants.

These tests made it possible to adapt the product to European realities, for use in mid-season as well as in winter, both outdoors and indoors. These climbing pants are now suitable for all practices, and even other outdoor activities such as hiking or paragliding, confirming their place alongside the best technical hiking pants .

Technical and design focus

The Nival Explorer is made from recycled polyester , made from plastic bottles. This fabric is insulating, lightweight, and suitable for outdoor activities in all seasons. It offers excellent resistance to wear and offers true freedom of movement.

Thanks to a successful Ulule campaign with more than 550 pre-orders , the Nival Explorer was able to benefit from direct feedback from its first users. The community quickly praised the product's technicality, its comfort and its ethical commitment.

Some initial flaws, such as fragile snap fasteners or improvable seams, were kindly addressed. They allowed the team to strengthen its technical expertise and adjust production in subsequent series.
